After making dessert for ourselves all week, it was time to make a special treat for our puppy, Teddy. He’s 11 weeks old and hasn’t liked almost any of the dog food we’ve given him, but we noticed he LOVES peanut butter. I’m not surprised- who doesn’t love peanut butter?!
These treats only require 3 ingredients and 40 minutes. Not only are treats easy to make, but they’re inexpensive and healthier than store-bought. Just like our food, dog treats seem to be filled with unknown ingredients. No wonder he’s been picky!
Teddy basically inhaled the peanut butter pumpkin treat and was begging for more. Admittedly, I tried one out of curiosity. Let’s just say I wasn’t as excited as Teddy.
I’m sure your dogs will be thanking you for these treats. Let me know how they react!
Peanut Butter Pumpkin Dog Treats
Ingredients
- 1/3 cup canned pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filling)
- 1/2 cup natural peanut butter*
- 1 cup oat flour (finely ground oats)
Instructions
1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (176 degrees Celsius) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. Mix the pumpkin and peanut butter until well combined, then add the flour. The mixture should be thick, so you might need to use your hands to combine.
3. On a lightly floured surface**, roll the dough until it’s 1/4 inch thick.
4. Use a cookie cutter and place the treats on a lined baking sheet.
5. Bake for 30 minutes and cool completely on a wire rack.
Notes
* Use peanut butter that only contains peanuts. Some added sugars & preservatives can be harmful for dogs.
** You could use all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, or cassava flour (for a gluten-free option) to dust the surface.
